Centenary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - 55 millim

This commemorative postage stamp was issued in May 1965 by Sudan to join member states across the globe in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) (1865–1965). Originally established in Paris in May 1865 as the International Telegraph Convention, the ITU evolved into a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for overseeing global communication standards, telegraphic interconnections, and radio frequency management.

By releasing a dedicated postal issue for this worldwide omnibus observation, Sudan’s postal administration highlighted its integration into global communications infrastructure and international administrative bodies. The occasion served to promote awareness of modern telecommunications infrastructure development, scientific standardization, and international technical cooperation across Sudan's expanding national network.
