Sennar Dam
Issued in 1962 as part of Sudan’s Indigenous Motifs series, this stamp commemorates the Sennar Dam, one of the country's most important engineering and irrigation projects. Completed on the Blue Nile in the 1920s, the dam played a crucial role in supporting agricultural development by providing water for the Gezira Scheme, one of the largest irrigated farming projects in Africa.
The inclusion of the Sennar Dam in this series highlighted the importance of water management and modern infrastructure to Sudan’s economic progress. By celebrating a landmark associated with agricultural expansion and national development, the issue reflected the country's efforts to promote growth, improve food production, and strengthen its economy during the post-independence era.
